Screw You (2018)
This piece is a continuation from my work Pain (2018). I was playing with the idea of stereo typically considered masculine and feminine materials and trying to blur the lines between them. The relevance of choosing to display 12 sanitary towels represents each month a woman menstruates in a year. Each month, usually she will feel some kind of discomfort or pain from this. The screws in this piece are kind of a dig at the taxing of sanitary products and how they are considered a luxury for women, while a product like a men’s razors however are not taxed. From this, I am gathering that the government are basically saying that having hair on a man’s face is more of an inconvenience, than a woman being covered in her own blood once a month.
