Shedding the Self I 2016
This piece of work was created in response the Aztec Double headed serpent sculpture, currently at the British Museum. My research lead me into the discovery of why serpents were worshipped. Snakes were seen as symbols of rebirth due to the shedding of their skin, and I started to play with this idea of rebirth. A lot of my work focuses on the human form and identity and I started to play with the concept of human rebirth and what it might look like if a human could shed their skin. I wanted to still make the connection to the double headed serpent which is why I chose to work with shedded snake.
